HC Deb 10 November 1952 vol 507 c572
12. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Supply for what purposes the scientists in his employ applied for licences for experiments on animals last year; and what animals were used.

Mr. Sandys

It would not be in the public interest to give this information.

Mr. Hughes

How can it be in the public interest to refuse to give a simple answer to this Question? Is it not a fact that the Minister will not give an answer because he is ashamed of these experiments on animals?

Mr. Sandys

The same answer was given repeatedly by the late Government to similar Questions and I see no reason to vary it.

Mr. Hughes

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply, I beg to give notice that I shall raise this matter on the Adjournment.
