§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeOn 31st March, 1952, the number of aliens over the age of 16 registered with the police as having been in the United Kingdom longer than three months was 393,314, as compared with a figure of 196,852 registered aliens in 1938.
§ Mr. ShepherdWhile appreciating the traditional rights of asylum, can my right hon. and learned Friend give an assurance that, in granting further permits to people who reside in this country, he is mindful of the size of our own population and the difficulty we shall have in supporting it in the years to come?
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeI would rather not limit my action by any categorisation of that kind.
