asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will replace the 40 mm. Bofors gun by some weapon better calculated to deal with modern air attack.

Mr. Head

Yes, Sir. It is planned to replace the present 40 mm. Bofors gun by a new and much improved weapon.

Mr. Harvey

Can my right hon. Friend tell the House, in view of the long time we have waited for approval of this new equipment, how soon we may expect it in action?

Mr. Head

My hon. Friend will see it in action as soon as possible. I hope that a certain number of these weapons will be available fairly soon, but I would prefer not to be tied to an exact date.
