§ 20. Captain Ryderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will include the case of the railway superannuitants within the review of pensions for retired civil servants, and others, that is taking place.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe position of railway superannuitants is being considered by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport. I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply given by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport on this subject on 6th May.
§ Mr. ErrollWill the Financial Secretary give an assurance that the recent ban on the increase of railway fares will not be used, even indirectly, as a reason for not according these people a just and fair pension?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterAs I have already explained to the House, the position of these people is being considered by my right hon. Friend, to whom my hon. Friend might care to put that question.
§ Mr. A. C. ManuelIs the Chancellor considering superannuation payments to all retired railway staff or merely to a proportion?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThat is quite manifestly a matter for my right hon. Friend.
