HC Deb 14 May 1952 vol 500 c1413
9. Mr. Barnett Janner

asked the Minister of Food if he can yet state whether eggs will be taken off the ration for any period in the near future.

Major Lloyd George

This is now unlikely.

Mr. Janner

Will the Minister say why it is unlikely, and why up to now there has been no rationing of a very large quantity of eggs which have been on sale? Will he make an investigation and find out what has happened to the eggs which were on sale and which were not on ration?

Major Lloyd George

I am not certain what the hon. Member has in mind. [HON. MEMBERS: "Eggs."] A very short answer to the first part of the hon. Gentleman's question is that the eggs were not there.

Mr. Janner

That is not so.

Major Lloyd George

I must be allowed to answer the question. The number of eggs this year are not anything like what they were when off the ration. Eggs sold off the ration now are not Grade A.
