HC Deb 14 May 1952 vol 500 cc1436-7

The following Questions stood upon the Order Paper:

60. Sir IAN FRASER,—TO ask the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is now in a position to make a statement about the renewal or alteration in the Charter of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

62. Mr. JANNER,—To ask the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will now make a statement of the Government's views and the arrangements they propose to make with regard to broadcasting after the present agreement with the British Broadcasting Corporation terminates.

At the end of Questions—

Mr. Janner

On a point of order. These two Questions, Mr. Speaker, have been the subject of considerable delay and procrastination. The Charter is coming to an end very speedily. Can we ask for your assistance so that the Assistant Postmaster-General can give us a reply at this very late hour?

Sir I. Fraser

May I ask you to believe, Mr. Speaker, that I am quite content to wait until tomorrow?

Mr. Speaker

The hon. Member for Leicester, North-West (Mr. Janner) will get his written reply today, and he can consider the matter again.
