HC Deb 08 May 1952 vol 500 c532
14. Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the number of emigrants from the United Kingdom for the year 1951.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The total number of emigrants from the United Kingdom in 1951 travelling direct by sea to places outside Europe and the Mediterranean area was 169,521, of whom 150,774 were British and 18,747 of foreign nationality.

Sir L. Ropner

Can my right hon. Friend say what proportion of these emigrants went to the Dominions or Colonies?

Mr. Thorneycroft

Perhaps my hon. and gallant Friend will put the question down.
