Hill Lands Commission (Report)

40. Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the Hill Lands Commission to report.

Mr. Snadden

I expect that the Commission will periodically report on the progress made in their task of stimulating the development of cattle rearing in the North of Scotland area; but they have not been asked to make a formal report or recommendations at any particular time.

Mr. MacLeod

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that this Commission is not covering ground which is being covered by other bodies in the Highland area, and is it examining the question of developing cattle on the hills on a township basis as well as a large-scale basis?

Mr. Snadden

The answer to both questions is "Yes."
