§ 6. Mr. Gerald Nabarroasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will state the policy of Her Majesty's Government in regard to householders stocking-up supplies of coal during the period between May and September in preparation for next winter; and what steps he is taking to facilitate these arrangements, including price concessions for summer stocking.
§ Mr. Geoffrey LloydYes, Sir. I have approved a summer prices scheme prepared by the National Coal Board and the coal distributors. Details will be announced in due course.
§ Mr. Philip Noel-BakerWould the Minister agree that the summer prices scheme has had a great success over the last few years?
§ Mr. Victor YatesDoes my right hon. Friend realise the large number of people who have no storage capacity, and will he this time consider issuing some kind of credit note to enable those who cannot store in the summer months to have special supplies?
§ Mr. LloydYes, I appreciate the position of those who have no storage accommodation, but the hon. Gentleman will appreciate that they get an advantage by those who have storage accommodation taking the coal in the summer and lightening the load on the merchants in the winter. Incidentally, in the hon. Member's constituency there are a large number of houses with cellars.
