§ 24. Sir Arnold Gridleyasked the Minister of Food what information he has of the quantity of meat at present available for shipment from New Zealand; how long it has been held up awaiting loading; and what representations have been made to the New Zealand Government to expedite dispatch in view of the shortage of meat in this country.
Dr. HillOn 1st March, the latest date for which information is available, there were, I understand, 90,000 tons of meat and offal in store, all from the current season's production. Our needs have been made fully known to the New Zealand authorities and to the shippers, and my right hon. and gallant Friend has discussed the matter personally with Mr. Holland. He wishes me to take this 12 opportunity of acknowledging the great efforts which Mr. Holland's Government are making to speed up loadings.
