HC Deb 20 March 1952 vol 497 c2544
36. Mr. Dodds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convictions were made in magistrates' courts in 1951 for driving offences while under the influence of drink; and in how many cases sentences of imprisonment were imposed or driving licences suspended.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Figures are available only for the first nine months of 1951. During this period there were 1,956 convictions for this offence in magistrates' courts. Sentences of imprisonment without the option of a fine were imposed in 129 of these cases, and the offender was disqualified from holding a driving licence in 1,861 cases.
