HC Deb 20 March 1952 vol 497 c2549
44. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he has taken, or proposes to take, to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Cruelty to Wild Animals.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The recommendations of the Committee about deer poaching are substantially implemented in the Poaching of Deer (Scotland) Bill, which has recently received a Second Reading in another place. The other recommendations are still under consideration.

Sir T. Moore

Will my right hon. and learned Friend bear in mind that there is a large number of people, both for and against the Report, who are exceedingly anxious that one or other of its recommendations, apart from the deer protection, should be brought into effect? Will he, therefore, expedite consideration of the matter?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I will certainly continue and expand the consideration.
