HC Deb 13 March 1952 vol 497 c1541
7. Captain Richard Pilkington

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has made any estimate of the extra expense which will be caused to industry in the area affected through the higher tariffs proposed by the Southern Electricity Board, due in part to reduced consumption by consumers.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

No, Sir. I have no information which would enable an estimate to be given of what additional charges may have to be borne by a wide variety of industry as a result of any increase which may be made in these tariffs.

Captain Pilkington

As these higher tariffs are most burdensome on industry and also on the home, is there any possibility of de-nationalisation or has the damage been done?
