HC Deb 12 March 1952 vol 497 cc1384-5
56. Mr. S. Marshall

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will consider sending a much more simplified form to referees where a telephonist has to be engaged than the present form P.888.W. of 23 questions all of which it is requested should be answered in words and not by placing ticks or marks in the vacant places.

Mr. Gammans

It is most important that an applicant's record should be thoroughly examined before employment, and all the information required in the form quoted is necessary for this purpose. My noble Friend will consider how far the questions can be worded so as to require only ticks or marks in reply.
