HC Deb 12 March 1952 vol 497 cc1367-8
16. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the plan for a new hospital at Aden has been abandoned; and when the tuberculosis wards to be built at Khormaksar will be ready for use.

Mr. Lyttelton

The plan has not been abandoned: it is still proposed to construct a new 480-bed hospital at Khormaksar as rapidly as difficulties of finance and shortage of technical staff can be overcome. A sum of£600,000 is included in the present Aden Colony Development Budget towards the building of this hospital. Tubercular patients are already adequately provided with wards at the present hospital, and will probably remain there until the major part of the new hospital has been built.

Mr. Rankin

Would the right hon. Gentleman say when he expects that the T.B. part of it will be ready for use?

Mr. Lyttelton

I can only say that I am a politician and not a prophet.
