HC Deb 04 March 1952 vol 497 cc189-90
3. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that the block of flats Viceroy Court in St. Marylebone remains empty because of failure to settle up dilapidation damages caused by Government occupation; and if he will take steps to expedite this, in view of the delay and the urgent need for accommodation in St. Marylebone.

Mr. H. Macmillan

No, Sir. I understand that all claims outstanding in respect of the requisitioning of these flats by the Air Ministry have been settled.

Mr. Arthur Henderson

Is the Minister aware that this block of flats, which contains a considerable number of separate flats, was derequisitioned 18 months ago in order to make more housing accommodation available, and is it not now time that this accommodation was made available?

Mr. Macmillan

Yes, Sir, but the question this time was whether some blame was attached to a Ministry of which both the right hon. and learned Gentleman and I have very happy memories. I was trying to point out in reply that the Air Ministry were not to blame in this matter.
