§ 37. Mr. Donnellyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give any estimate of the total cost of British occupation Forces in Germany for the year 1951–52, which will be defrayed by the West German Government.
§ Mr. NuttingI would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Reading, South (Mr. Mikardo) on 11th June.
§ Mr. DonnellyIs the hon. Gentleman aware that the total figures for the year for Germany for all the occupation Forces are considerably more than for the year before. In view of that, would he give some information how these costs are distributed among the occupying Powers?
§ Mr. NuttingThere is a Question on the Order Paper about costs for the future, but the hon. Gentleman concerned is not here to ask it. Perhaps I may tell the hon. Member that from April to October, 1952, the occupation costs of the three zones will be approximately: British, 210 million deutschmarks a month; United States, 270 million: France, 120 million.
