§ 15. Mr. Hobsonasked the Minister of Transport if he will ensure that a thorough investigation is made into the condition of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal banks in the Borough of Keighley in order to prevent a repetition of the breach and subsequent flooding which occurred in the borough on 17th May.
Mr. BraithwaiteI am informed by the British Transport Commission that a thorough investigation has been made into the condition of this stretch of canal and that remedial measures have been carried out which should prevent any further breach.
§ Mr. HobsonWhile thanking the hon. Gentleman for that reply, may I ask him whether he is aware that there are leakages in the canal now in spite of the investigation which has taken place and that if a breach occurs there could be considerable risk of damage to life and property?
Mr. BraithwaiteI understand that a special watch is being kept and that some men are still on duty there. I have no doubt that the comments of the hon. Gentleman will be studied by the Transport Commission, whose responsibility it is.
