HC Deb 31 July 1952 vol 504 cc1661-2
5. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now make a further statement about holding the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturdays.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The traffic problems created by the Lord Mayor's Show have been under examination by a working party representing the interests primarily concerned. I understand that the working party have completed their deliberations and that their report will be in my hands within the next few days.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Does that mean that there is a possibility, if the working party so recommend, that the Lord Mayor's Show will be held on Saturdays in future, because that would help to minimise traffic congestion and provide an opportunity for many thousands of children to witness this popular display?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I think we ought to wait for the report.

Sir H. Williams

Is a working party the same thing as the shorter word "committee"?

Sir H. Webbe

Is the traffic congestion caused by the Lord Mayor's Show in the City of London any more serious than the congestion on the Order Paper caused by the hon. and gallant Gentleman's frequent Questions on this subject?
