30. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Labour the total numbers registered as wholly unemployed at the employment exchanges in Leven, Burntisland and Cowdenbeath, respectively, on 30th June, 1951, and 30th June, 1952; and how many at each of these exchanges are at the moment temporarily stopped.

As the reply includes a table of figures, I will, if I may, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Would the Minister not agree that the incidence of unemployment amongst women and girls in this area is particularly distressing, and would he take careful note of the Cairncross Report and see whether we can get some light industries into this area because the problem will get progressively worse?

Yes, and I hope to be in Scotland myself during the Recess to look into this matter.
