asked the Assistant Postmaster-General, in view of the fact that the capital expenditure involved in co-operating over television with France was more than the proposed expenditure to give television to the North East Coast, he will now consider providing this service for this part of Great Britain.

I am informed by the B.B.C. that there was no capital cost in the normal sense of the word since the equipment used was not specially bought or manufactured but forms part of the B.B.C.'s standard equipment for outside transmissions.

Is my hon. Friend aware how grateful I am that he has now given me this information in public because, when I originally asked for the information by letter, he was unfortunately unable to give it to me? Further, is he aware how important it is to the North-East Coast that we should know that expenditure is not being incurred in other areas while we are being left out?
