§ 17. Mr. Footasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has considered the request from the Jamaica Agricultural Society to send a delegation to Jamaica to discuss the future of the bulk purchase contracts.
§ Mr. LytteltonI have received no such request.
§ Mr. FootIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the announcement of the request was printed in the agricultural Press in Jamaica and that the proposal for such a delegation arose because of the fear that the British Government was to abandon long-term bulk purchase contracts with the banana industry? Will he do everything in his power to dissuade the Ministry of Food from taking any such course?
§ Mr. LytteltonThat is another question, but I might add that the Minister of Food hopes very shortly to discuss the matter of the marketing of bananas with representatives of the Jamaican interests.
