HC Deb 28 July 1952 vol 504 c1088
40. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Food what progress is being made in introducing more hygienic handling of food in shops and restaurants.

Dr. Hill

As hygienic handling of food is essentially a matter of personal care and cleanliness it is upon a wider recognition by the public of the dangers involved that progress mainly depends. Local authorities and other bodies, including the Central Council for Health Education, are doing their best to bring home to the public the danger to themselves and to the community of careless food handling, but a good deal remains to be done if these unnecessary outbreaks of food poisoning are to be prevented.
