HC Deb 23 July 1952 vol 504 c512
19. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Northern Rhodesian Government proposes to station the recently appointed trade union officer in Lusaka.

Mr. Lyttelton

No appointment has yet been made of a specialist trade union officer to Lusaka.

Mr. J. Griffiths

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind the importance of locating the new officer in the Copper Belt, where the officer who recently resigned did so much good work?

Mr. Lyttelton

I am in communication with the Government of Northern Rhodesia on this point. So far, they have only told me that there are other well-established unions with which they wish to keep in touch. The matter is not yet settled, and I take note of the right hon. Gentleman's point.
