HC Deb 10 July 1952 vol 503 c1506
33. Mr. Morley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps to enable a local education authority to obtain a rebate in respect of Purchase Tax paid on equipment and materials supplied for use in educational establishments.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No, Sir.

Mr. Morley

Will the Financial Secretary ask his right hon. Friend the Chancellor, whose past great services to education we all appreciate, whether, when framing his next Budget, he will consider the abolition of Purchase Tax on school requisites?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

As the hon. Member is aware, there are great administrative and practical difficulties in such a proposal.
