HC Deb 08 July 1952 vol 503 cc1088-9
24. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the chief factors limiting Government orders for non-traditional housing, such as the order of 3,000 Weir houses; and whether the most important of these is the net shortage of suitable home-grown timber, the cost of importing timber from Colonial and Commonwealth sources or the lack of currency for purchase of non-Sterling timber.

Mr. J. Stuart

The chief factor is scarcity of currency for the purchase of softwood from non-Sterling countries.
