36. Mr. W. G. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many old people's homes are presently under the control of Glasgow Corporation; how many residents, male and female, there are; and what is the cost per inmate per week.

Mr. J. Stuart

The Corporation have seven old people's homes. On 31st May, 1952, there were 500 male and 501 female residents. The latest available figures show an average cost per person per week of approximately 66s.

Mr. Bennett

Can my right hon. Friend inform the House whether Glasgow Corporation is acquiring a further number of homes for this purpose?

Mr. Stuart

Yes, it is at present in process of arranging accommodation for a further 99 persons, and it is considering after that the acquisition of another establishment.
