HC Deb 01 July 1952 vol 503 cc235-6
39. Mr. J. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when a start will be made on the building of the school in the burgh of Whitburn, which is urgently required.

Mr. J. Stuart

The West Lothian education authority are having the plans drawn, but they are unlikely to be ready to start building before the spring of next year.

Mr. Taylor

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this burgh has more than doubled its population in recent years; that it has only one school in the whole burgh and the education of the children is being carried on in various holes and corners all over the burgh; and will he try to help to expedite this matter?

Mr. Stuart

Yes, Sir, I am aware of the position. The amount of accommodation has been agreed with the Department and it is now a question of approving plans.
