HC Deb 01 July 1952 vol 503 cc230-1
29. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Minister of Labour the latest number of registered unemployed at the Brixton Employment Exchange; and how it compares with the corresponding figure last year.

Sir W. Monckton

1,374 at 16th June, 1952, compared with 650 at 18th June, 1951.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Does that not again represent more than twice as many unemployed this year as compared with last year—at a time when seasonal unemployment ought to be at its lowest?

Sir W. Monckton

The hon. and gallant Gentleman will be happy to notice that the improvement in the last month is over 300, and that the figure in 1950 was about the same as now.
