HC Deb 31 January 1952 vol 495 c347
22. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he intends to introduce legislation to clarify the law relating to posts of profit under the Crown and other Parliamentary disqualifications.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

The Government are considering legislation on this subject but there will not be time for it this Session.

Sir I. Fraser

Apart from the merits of this matter, would the Home Secretary and the Leader of the House consider the great advantage of a non-controversial Measure like this, which would give us some peaceable weeks during the coming months?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I will consider what my hon. Friend says.

Mr. Ede

Will the right hon. and learned Gentleman also consider the chances of such a Measure being non-controversial?

25. Mr. Cyril W. Black

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether a decision has yet been reached as to the character and terms of reference of the body of inquiry to be set up in connection with the issues raised by the case of the late Reverend J. G. MacManaway.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Harry Crookshank)

I have been asked to reply. The Government propose to ask the House to agree to the appointment of a Select Committee to examine and report on the whole question of clergy disqualification.
