HC Deb 31 January 1952 vol 495 cc353-5
35. Mr. Charles Fletcher-Cooke

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the report of the Medical Research Council relating to the incidence of cancer of the lung among heavy smokers; and whether he will con-

already definitely refused to implement sections of Part I of the Oaksey Report? What action does he intend to take in that matter?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I am very anxious that when negotiations are taking place there should not be in this House or from this Bench criticism of one of two parties who are bargaining. I can assure the hon. Lady that I shall do my utmost to press on these negotiations in order to deal with the point.

Following are the figures:

sider making this information more widely known to the general public.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Miss Patricia Hornsby-Smith)

My right hon. Friend's attention has been drawn to this report. He is, however, advised that there is not yet sufficient evidence of the exact relationship between heavy smoking and cancer of the lung to justify a publicity campaign. Further investigations are in progress.
