§ 32. Mr. Manuelasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will indicate those local authorities who have requested his permission to sell houses; and the number in each local authority area.
Commander GalbraithIn addition to the application from Glasgow, Campbeltown Town Council asked last year to be allowed to sell four houses and Prestwick Town Council recently proposed to build 24 for sale. Since the beginning of 1951, nine other local authorities have made inquiries on this subject.
§ Mr. ManuelCould the hon. and gallant Member give an indication of how many local authorities and associations in Scotland have indicated to the Secretary of State their desire that no houses should be sold during the present period of housing need?
§ Mr. John RankinCould the Joint Under-Secretary say whether these houses come within the ratio for sale which was recently decided upon, or whether they are houses outside that scope altogether?
Commander GalbraithMany of them had indicated that they wanted to sell their houses before the present ratio was fixed.
§ Mr. WoodburnCould the Joint Under-Secretary make quite clear to the House that the Government are not bringing any pressure on local authorities to sell corporation houses?
