§ 39. Mr. G. Williamsasked the Minister of Health how many British patients are now being treated for tuberculosis in Swiss sanatoria under the National Health Service.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodOne hundred and thirty beds are available and are continuously occupied, except on the change-over of patients.
§ Mr. WilliamsWill the Minister increase this number, for two reasons? First, it does not cost any more to treat patients in Switzerland than it does in this country; secondly, he would diminish the chances of infection spreading in this country, thereby saving many lives and much money.
§ Mr. MacleodOur present contract runs until October, 1953. I can give no guarantee beyond that. No doubt my hon. Friend realises that the waiting lists in this country are tumbling all the time.
§ Mr. BlenkinsopCould the right hon. Gentleman make available a report on the working of the scheme, as it would be of interest to both sides of the House?
§ Mr. MacleodThe hon. Gentleman has a Question on this matter later, but, in fact, such a report was recently made.
