§ 25. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in how many instances and for what offences was corporal punishment inflicted in Tanganyika, Uganda and Kenya, respectively, in 1938, 1945, 1951 and to the latest available date of this year; and in how many cases this punishment was awarded by native courts.
§ Mr. LytteltonComplete information is not available in the Colonial Office. I am therefore consulting the Governors and will communicate with the hon. Member when I have their replies.
§ Mr. SorensenThe right hon. Gentleman has spoken of "complete information." Can he give us a rough idea whether the number of times that corporal punishment has been inflicted has increased or decreased?
§ Mr. LytteltonI am sure the hon. Member will sympathise with me when I say that I really must not deal in rough information.
