HC Deb 04 December 1952 vol 508 c1731
6. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Agriculture the fowl population at the latest convenient date; and how this compares with the same date the year before.

Sir T. Dugdale

According to the latest census the total number of fowl in Great Britain on 4th September this year was 59,113,000. The corresponding figure for last year was 59,287,000.

Lieut-Colonel Lipton

Is the Minister in a position to give the House any information about the alarming outbreak of fowl pest, which will have a very serious effect on our fowl population?

Sir T. Dugdale

That is altogether another question. I cannot give any detailed information now, but I can assure the House that I am watching the situation very carefully indeed.
