HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 cc1264-5
16. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Secretary of State for War what full dress uniform is now laid down for the Resident Governor of the Tower of London and for the Governor and officers of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

Mr. Head

The approved uniform for officers holding these particular appointments is, for those who have it, pre-war full dress. When this needs to be replaced, or for those who do not have it the uniform is No. 1 dress.

Brigadier Rayner

As generally speaking in this country people want to retain such pageantry as remains, will not my right hon. Friend reconsider the position about No. 1 dress?

Mr. Head

If we were to retain full dress throughout the Army, I assure my hon. and gallant Friend that the financial aspect of the decision would be very considerable.

Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

Would the Minister consider using some of the Prime Minister's cast-offs for this purpose?

Mr. Head

Not without notice.
