HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 c1275
49. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the staff of his Department dealing with tourism, entrepôt trade, tobacco, restrictive practices and consumer needs, has increased from 79 in 1951–52 to 132 in 1952–53.

Mr. H. Strauss

The figures quoted for the two financial years are not strictly comparable because, in the latter year, the responsibilities of this division were increased to cover restrictive practices, consumer needs and certain other industries. This followed a general reorganisation of the Industries and Manufactures Department of the Board which resulted in a decrease of 145 in its staff.

Sir H. Williams

May I ask my hon. and learned Friend why after "restrictive practices" and "consumer needs" he says "and certain other industries"? Are those first two industries?
