HC Deb 01 December 1952 vol 508 cc1104-5
60. Mr. Albu

asked the Minister of Supply whether he has agreed to the proposals now under discussion for the manufacture of the Britannia aircraft in Canada.

Mr. Sandys

The Bristol Aeroplane Company are keeping me fully informed of the progress of these discussions. So far, no issue requiring formal reference to me has arisen.

Mr. Albu

Does not the Minister think that there would be an advantage in getting the aircraft manufactured in this country? We could, of course, get a very much larger return in dollars for the aircraft made than purely for royalties.

Mr. Sandys

Naturally, we should like to see as many aircraft made in this country as possible, but it does not follow that the aircraft would necessarily be made in this country. The proposals now under consideration offer considerable advantages.
