HC Deb 07 April 1952 vol 498 c2284
59. Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what special funds have been made available to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation to enable them to organise joint international action against foot-and-mouth disease.

Mr. Eden

None, Sir. Her Majesty's Government contribute the equivalent of about 750,000 dollars annually to the Food and Agriculture Organisation, whose programme includes work on the control of foot-and-mouth disease.

Her Majesty's Government also provide the funds for the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Research Institute at Pirbright, which carries out systematic Epizooticological surveys on foot-and-mouth disease, both in conjunction with F.A.O. and also on occasion by direct co-operation with the countries concerned.
