HC Deb 07 April 1952 vol 498 c2282
48. Mr. F. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what status is accorded by the Chinese Communist authorities to Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires in Peking.

Mr. Eden

The Chinese Government accepted Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires in that capacity and as—to quote their words—"The British Government's negotiating representative."

Mr. Maclean

Can my right hon. Friend say whether or not he enjoys full diplomatic rights and status?

Mr. Eden

He enjoys the normal diplomatic courtesies and privileges.
