HC Deb 29 November 1951 vol 494 c1710
45. Mr. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether the statement made by the Lord President of the Council at the Billingsgate wholesalers' luncheon, concerning price control generally and fish prices in particular, represents the policy of His Majesty's Government.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council's statement was to the effect that in his opinion controls were bad but they were sometimes necessary this is the view of His Majesty's Government.

Mr. Lewis

In view of the fact that the Minister of Food stated that if prices of fish did increase and continued to increase he would consider replacing price controls on fish, can we have an assurance from the Prime Minister that the Minister of Food would have his way and not the co-ordinating Minister in another place?

The Prime Minister

This is a moment for answering Questions, and not for making Ministerial pronouncements.

Air Commodore A. V. Harvey

Is the Prime Minister aware that prices of fish were lower during the last week than for some months?

Hon. Members

Who says so?
