HC Deb 29 November 1951 vol 494 c1691
6. Mr. Austen Albu

asked the Minister of Education if she will make a statement on the policy of the Government on higher technological education.

Miss Horsbrugh

It is not yet possible to make a statement on the Government's policy in this field. It is being considered as a matter of great urgency and importance by consultation between myself and my colleagues who are concerned with aspects of the matter which are outside the scope of my Department.

Mr. Albu

Can the right hon. Lady give an assurance that there will be no change in the policy, which I believe has been followed by her Department, of upgrading a number of technical colleges?

Miss Horsbrugh

As I have already said, I am looking into this matter with urgency. I should not like to state here, before I look into this question, that I have made up my mind that there is to be no change.
