9. Mr. R. J. Taylor

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what action he proposes to take to mitigate the distressing conditions people are having to endure living in huts at North Steads, Red Row, Morpeth.

Mr. H. Macmillan

The rural district council has arranged for a firm experienced in weatherproofing to examine the faulty huts with a view to repair. The firm's estimate will be submitted to my principal regional officer shortly.

Mr. Taylor

Is the Minister aware of the deplorable conditions under which these people are living, and will he undertake to have this done as speedily as possible?

Mr. Macmillan

Yes, Sir.

All over the country we have these huts, which are in a scandalous condition, and is not their condition today and the fact that they are being used entirely due to the ineptness of right hon. Gentlemen opposite?
