HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 cc208-9
31. Brigadier Prior-Palmer

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he proposes to take to eliminate the delay in approval of housing tenders submitted by local authorities to his regional offices.

Mr. H. Macmillan

If my hon. and gallant Friend will let me have particulars of any cases he has in mind, I shall be glad to look into them.

Brigadier Prior-Palmer

Is my right hon. Friend not aware that throughout the country there have been delays of up to six or eight months in the approval of tenders against allocation and that labour and materials have been used on unnecessary work in order to maintain employment until these allocations have been met?

Mr. Macmillan

I am looking into this matter. I should be rather surprised to find that it was of such a general character, but if the hon. and gallant Gentleman knows of particular cases that would help me I should he pleased to hear of them in order to make a limited inquiry with a view to putting things right.
