HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c204
20. Mr. Peter Roberts

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether, in view of the fact that Sheffield has consistently received a lower allocation of licences than other towns of a comparable size, he will now increase the number of licences to 2,500 in order to help to solve the housing problems in Sheffield.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

As I informed the hon. Member for Park (Mr. Mulley) on 13th November, I am ready to increase the allocation in accordance with progress made.

Mr. Roberts

Does that mean that it is up to the Sheffield Council itself to make good its progress and that after that further allocations will be made?

Mr. Macmillan

These allocations are given from time to time. They are not statutory. As progress is made I will certainly consider further allocations.
