HC Deb 20 November 1951 vol 494 c201
14. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for War how many British soldiers have been killed or wounded in Korea since the cease-fire negotiations were initiated; and what are the casualty figures for Scottish units.

Mr. Head

From the beginning of these negotiations up to 13th November, eight British officers and 96 other ranks were killed or died of wounds; 27 officers and 393 other ranks were wounded. The casualty figures for Scottish units included in these totals are: killed or died of wounds 24 other ranks; wounded, five officers and 140 other ranks.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Minister aware that there is a great deal of disquiet because people are getting killed when cease-fire negotiations are going on? Is it not possible to keep military action to a minimum while these talks go on?

Mr. Head

I am just as anxious as the hon. Member is that these armistice negotiations should succeed. They are being conducted at the present time. I would not wish to comment in any way upon these negotiations. It is to be hoped that they will result in a successful conclusion.
