HC Deb 19 November 1951 vol 494 cc32-3
The Prime Minister

I have to inform the House that their Address of Thursday last to His Majesty, praying His Majesty, That He will be most graciously pleased to confer some signal mark of His Royal Favour upon Colonel the Right Honourable Douglas Clifton Brown for his eminent services during the important period in which he has with such distinguished ability and dignity presided in the Chair of this House, and assuring His Majesty that whatever expense His Majesty shall think fit to he incurred upon that account this House will make good the same, has been presented to His Majesty, and His Majesty has been pleased to receive the same very graciously, and has commanded me to acquaint this House that His Majesty is desirous, in compliance with the request of His faithful Commons, to confer upon Colonel the Right Honourable Douglas Clifton Brown some signal mark of His Royal Favour; but, as the same cannot be effectually granted and secured without the concurrence of Parliament, His Majesty recommends to the House of Commons the adoption of such measures as may be necessary for the accomplishment of this purpose.

Committee to consider His Majesty's Most Gracious Answer upon Wednesday.—[Mr. Buchan-Hepburn.]
