HC Deb 14 November 1951 vol 493 cc971-2
42. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why there is no British member of the United Nations delegation to the Korean truce talks.

Mr. Nutting

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Bristol, South-East (Mr. Benn), on 12th November.

Mr. Chetwynd

As that reply was not very satisfactory, may I ask the hon. Gentleman if he is aware of the growing disquiet in this country at the delay in reaching a settlement and the general obscurity surrounding these talks? Does not he think that at this stage the addition of a British representative might speed things up and bring a greater sense of urgency to the matter?

Mr. Nutting

The question of delay or otherwise in the negotiations is another matter. I am merely answering the Question of whether there should or should not be a British member of the United Nations Delegation at the truce talks.
