§ 39. Mr. Geoffrey de Freitasasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air how many air cadets have been trained by civil flying clubs to private pilot licence standard; and what is the cost per cadet.
§ Mr. BirchTraining under the flying scholarship scheme started in July, 1950, and by the end of last month 333 cadets had been trained by civil flying clubs to private pilot licence standard. Allowing for the few failures and withdrawals, the average cost of each cadet trained is about£145.
§ Mr. de FreitasIn view of the great success of this scheme and its relatively 971 low cost, will the Under-Secretary give an assurance that he will consider the expansion of this air scholarship scheme?
§ Mr. BirchThe scheme certainly has been a great success, and the question of its expansion is now under consideration.
