HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 c798
16. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give a list of those who hold honorary ranks of general or above in the British Army, showing what payments or perquisites apply in each case.

Mr. Head

His Majesty King Farouk the First of Egypt and Sir Hubert de la Poer Gough hold the honorary rank of general in the British Army. Neither receives pay nor perquisites by virtue of these appointments.

Mr. Hynd

Is it intended to continue these appointments, and is the Minister aware of the public disquiet through seeing certain names included in that list?

Mr. Head

I should prefer not to answer that question at the present moment.
